About the Role
We are seeking enthusiastic registrars to join our Women's Health team at Waikato Hospital, located in Hamilton, New Zealand. As a RANZCOG training department, we offer extensive learning opportunities across various specialist Gynaecology areas, including Gynae-oncology, minimal access surgery, Urogynaecology, and Colposcopy, as well as High-Risk Obstetrics featuring a dedicated Pre-term Birth Clinic.
A commitment to patient-centered care and multi-disciplinary teamwork is essential. We require applicants to be flexible in their approach and willing to contribute positively to our service. Recent experience in both acute gynaecology and obstetrics, along with antenatal care experience—both inpatient and outpatient—is necessary.
Our collaborative and supportive learning environment fosters excellence and innovation. We maintain a strong teaching and training culture, providing protected weekly registrar teaching sessions and multidisciplinary CTG education meetings. Additionally, we host monthly perinatal morbidity and mortality meetings, as well as high-risk obstetric, colposcopy, general gynaecology, and gynae-oncology multidisciplinary meetings to support ongoing professional development.
We are open to negotiating individually tailored schedules that focus on your specific interests and training needs. While you will be expected to contribute to the registrar after-hours roster, we are committed to ensuring your training requirements are fully met.
About the Team/Service
Te Whatu Ora Waikato District is one of New Zealand's largest tertiary and secondary healthcare providers, serving a population of 900,000 with tertiary services and 375,000 with secondary services. Our district sees approximately 5,500 deliveries each year, with 3,500 occurring at Waikato Hospital. Our facilities include a seven-bed delivery suite, two high dependency beds, a women's acute assessment unit, as well as antenatal, postnatal, and gynaecological inpatient wards, and modern outpatient services and theatres.
Our Obstetrics and Gynaecology team comprises 15 consultants, 17 registrars, and 9 senior house officers. Hamilton, the fourth largest city in New Zealand, is known for its rapid growth and beautiful surroundings along the Waikato River. The region offers a range of outdoor activities, reasonably priced housing, excellent schools, and a manageable commute, making it an ideal place for raising a family or enjoying leisure pursuits.
About You
As an Obstetrics and Gynaecology Registrar, you will possess:
- Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Vocational registration in a medical specialty
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand, along with a current practising certificate from the Medical Council of NZ
