About the Role We are excited to offer a fixed-term, full-time opportunity for a motivated and dynamic General Medicine Specialist at Waikato Hospital. In this role, you will join a supportive and enthusiastic team committed to delivering high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment. As a General Medicine Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing patient flow through the Emergency Department (ED) and Acute Medical Unit (AMU). Your clinical expertise and compassionate leadership will help us improve decision-making processes and reduce avoidable admissions. Key Responsibilities - Lead initiatives to improve ED wait times and minimize length of stay in the AMU. - Provide clinical input in both the ED and AMU. - Collaborate directly with general practitioners to facilitate admission avoidance. - Ensure our team operates efficiently, safely, and maintains a strong focus on timely discharges. - Deliver high-quality, ethical medical care while maintaining accountability as a consultant. The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience and in alignment with the ASMS SECA agreement. Additional benefits include KiwiSaver contributions (if eligible), shift allowances, and support for professional development and wellness. About the Team/Service You will be part of a large, dedicated team consisting of physicians, registrars, clinical nurse specialists, allied health professionals, and administrative staff. We encourage involvement in teaching, ongoing medical education, and quality improvement initiatives. Our team is focused on the continuous development of our services to meet the evolving needs of our patients, emphasizing customer service and collaborative work. About You We are looking for an experienced General Medicine Specialist who possesses: - Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. - Qualifications to practice as a specialist Internal Medicine Physician. - Vocational registration in the Internal Medicine scope of practice with the Medical Council of New Zealand. - A valid practicing certificate from the Medical Council of New Zealand. - A current full driver's license.
