About the Role We are seeking a Consultant Radiation Oncologist to join our dynamic and multidisciplinary team at Waikato Hospital. This permanent, full-time position involves 50 hours of work per week and offers a remarkable opportunity for professional growth. About the Team/Service/Location At Health New Zealand, Waikato, we provide a comprehensive range of Radiation Oncology services. Our department utilizes the Eclipse planning system and operates four advanced linear accelerators that deliver cutting-edge radiation treatments, including rotational IMRT and cone beam CT image guidance. We are proud to employ state-of-the-art technology such as TrueBeam, HyperArc, and Halcyon. Our expertise includes superficial kilovoltage equipment for skin cancer treatment and we are national leaders in HDR brachytherapy, with a proactive program for treating gynecological and prostate malignancies. Additionally, we offer stereotactic ablative radiation therapy (SABR) for lung cancer and metastases, as well as linear accelerator-based fractionated radiosurgery for brain metastases. We have established SABR protocols for various body sites, providing opportunities for the successful candidate to enhance current protocols or develop new techniques. We are also the national provider of total skin electron therapy for skin lymphomas. At Waikato Hospital, you will collaborate with a team of eight medical oncologists, nine haematologists, ten radiation oncologists, and five palliative care physicians, serving a regional population of approximately 750,000. Our radiation therapy services are delivered at Waikato Hospital and outpatient clinics in Hamilton, as well as three secondary hospitals: Thames Hospital, Rotorua Hospital, and Gisborne Hospital. About You The ideal candidate will possess the qualifications required for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand and hold a valid driver's license. We are looking for someone who is competent in te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori, or who is committed to beginning their journey in these areas. Experience in upholding the principles of Te Tiriti and applying Matauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches within healthcare settings is essential.
