About the Role We are seeking a Patient Support Security Worker to join our team at the Inpatient Mental Health Unit at Nelson Hospital. In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring a welcoming and safe environment for our patients and their whānau. Your primary focus will be to collaborate with our staff to address the needs of those accessing our services. This is a permanent, part-time position requiring 48 hours per fortnight (0.6 FTE), with shifts on Monday, Tuesday, and Sunday from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Occasionally, you may be asked to work alternative shifts to meet service needs. There is no on-call requirement for this position. Please note that applicants must be eligible to work in New Zealand or hold a valid New Zealand visa at the time of application. About the Team/Service/Location Our team consists of 12 dedicated staff members across the Nelson Marlborough region. This role emphasizes providing support to individuals accessing the Emergency Department and Mental Health services, ensuring they feel safe and cared for in a therapeutic environment. About You As a Patient Support Security Worker, we are looking for candidates who: - Maintain a calm and rational demeanor in various situations. - Possess the skills and experience to effectively de-escalate challenging scenarios. - Promote a safe and therapeutic atmosphere for patients and visitors. - Collaborate well with the clinical team and adhere to directions. Additionally, you should demonstrate: - Empathy and a non-judgmental attitude towards patients and the public. - The ability to connect with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. - Awareness of and the capability to report any issues affecting patient welfare. - A good level of physical fitness and mobility. While previous experience in security or a related field is preferred, it is not a requirement as we provide training.
