Description
About the Company
Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldiers Hospital is part of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, an organization committed to upholding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We strive to create a health system that serves all New Zealanders effectively.
About the Role
We are currently seeking an Internal Medicine Physician who is passionate about delivering high-quality acute and general medical care. This full-time position (80 hours per fortnight, 1.0 FTE) will allow for subspecialty work, and we welcome applications from candidates with various specialties.
About the Team/Service/Location
Hawkes Bay is home to a diverse population of approximately 162,000 residents, spanning both urban and remote rural areas. Our services are primarily based at the Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Hastings, which boasts a capacity of 400 beds, making it one of the largest provincial hospitals in New Zealand.
In our general medicine department, we manage over 8,000 admissions each year across four medical wards and a 20-bed acute assessment unit. We operate with eight teams supported by registrars, house officers, and trainee interns. The medical department fosters a strong collegial environment, supported by a comprehensive education calendar, and comprises over 40 physicians across various specialties. We are actively engaged in initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes, reviewing care models, enhancing patient flow, and addressing healthcare inequities.
Hawkes Bay offers a wonderful work-life balance with its beautiful beaches, outdoor adventure opportunities, excellent schools, nearby mountains for skiing, and a variety of exceptional dining and winery experiences.
About You
The ideal candidate will possess an FRACP or equivalent qualification and be registered, or eligible for registration, as a specialist with the Medical Council of New Zealand. As an Internal Medicine Physician, you should have a broad skill set and be adept at managing undifferentiated presentations in acute medicine. You will provide clinical leadership to a multidisciplinary team and demonstrate a commitment to continuous quality improvement. While the primary focus will be on ward-based care for acute presentations, the role will also include time allocated for outpatient clinics and service development initiatives.
