Expressions of Interest - Corrections Officer - Arohata Prison
About the Company
At Arohata Prison, we are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of individuals within our care. We aim to shape futures by providing a supportive environment where people can navigate their rehabilitation journey. Our team is dedicated to the security and well-being of those serving sentences or on remand in our facility. While we are currently at our resourcing capacity, we welcome expressions of interest for future openings.
About the Role
As a Corrections Officer, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the security and well-being of individuals in our prison. Your responsibilities will include inducting individuals into their unit, helping them adjust to life in prison, and supervising their daily routines. By serving as positive role models, our Corrections Officers contribute significantly to fostering change and enhancing community safety.
The role involves a variety of tasks across specialized units, different security levels, and site-specific activities. All new officers will participate in a comprehensive training program designed to equip them with the necessary skills for the job. This includes an initial week-long induction at your assigned prison, followed by five weeks at our National Learning Centre in Upper Hutt, and an additional five weeks of on-site training before graduation. Ongoing learning and professional development opportunities will be available throughout your career.
Arohata Women's Prison is one of three women's prisons in New Zealand, and we have made significant strides in addressing the unique needs of women in our care. Our Women's Strategy, "Wahine: E Rere Ana Ki te Pae Hou," outlines a trauma-informed and culturally responsive approach to support the women we manage. If you are passionate about working with women and making a difference in their lives, we would love to hear from you.
