About the Role
We are currently seeking a Mechanical/Electrical Fitter to join our team at the Waltham depot in Christchurch. In this permanent, full-time position, you will be part of a 24/7 rotating roster, playing a crucial role in maintaining our locomotive fleet. Your hands-on work will ensure that our locomotives are safe, reliable, and ready for action.
In this role, you will:
- Carry out scheduled maintenance and mechanical repairs on locomotives
- Identify and diagnose faults, collaborating with your team to resolve them
- Perform safety checks and assist operators with equipment
- Maintain clear service records while adhering to all safety procedures
- Support yard operations, including the operation of rail vehicles
Requirements
We are looking for a mechanically minded individual who is committed to safety and quality. You will bring the following qualifications and experience:
- Experience in heavy industry or automotive engineering
- A strong focus on safety, problem-solving skills, and delivering quality outcomes
- A team-oriented approach with the ability to adapt to changing priorities
- A full Class 1 driver license
- Relevant trade qualifications or certifications
It would be advantageous if you also have:
- Experience as a Diesel or Automotive Mechanic
- Experience in Automotive Electrical work
- Welding certification (AS/NZS 2980 or ISO 9606.1)
- A Level 4-5 NZQA trade certificate in mechanical fitting or a related field
- F endorsement on your NZ driver license
- Gantry crane unit standards (US 30072 and 3800)
