Description
Location: Wellington/Kenepuru/Kapiti/Hutt
Contract: Permanent, Full Time (we are open to discussions regarding part-time hours for multiple candidates)
About the Company
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and dedicated to providing healthcare services to all New Zealanders. We are focused on building an integrated health system that emphasizes partnership, equity, sustainability, whanau-centered care, and excellence.
About the Role
We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for an experienced Podiatrist to join our High Risk Foot service across the Capital, Coast, and Hutt Valley regions. We are looking for a qualified podiatrist who possesses the skills and knowledge to deliver evidence-based best practices in the assessment and management of complex high-risk foot wounds and complications.
In this role, you will be part of a small team of podiatrists responsible for assessing and treating active high-risk foot wounds in both outpatient clinics and inpatient settings throughout the Capital, Coast, and Hutt Valley areas. Your caseload will primarily include conditions related to diabetes and vascular complications.
As vital members of the vascular multidisciplinary team (MDT), our podiatrists work collaboratively in an MDT clinic alongside vascular surgeons, vascular nurse specialists, diabetes consultants, wound specialist nurses, microbiologists, and orthotists. Together, we aim to enhance patient outcomes and reduce amputation rates within the diabetic foot population. The team also works closely with the community diabetes podiatry team to improve patient outcomes and reduce hospitalizations across the region.
About the Team/Service Location
Our podiatry team currently consists of six dedicated professionals serving the Capital, Coast, and Hutt Valley District. This role is situated within the Allied Health Outpatient Team, which includes podiatrists, physiotherapists, social workers, and dietitians, all predominantly working in outpatient settings. Our team operates across four locations: Wellington Regional Hospital, Kenepuru Hospital, Kapiti Health Centre, and Hutt Hospital. We pride ourselves on being a diverse and inclusive team, providing services to patients and their whanau in outpatient, inpatient, and community settings.
In addition to collaborating with fellow podiatrists, this role will involve working closely with other departments within CCHV, including district nursing, orthopaedics, vascular services, diabetes, and wound care specialist nurses.
About You
We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications:
- A minimum of three years of clinical experience, preferably in a high-risk foot setting, with expertise in wound care and assessment of high-risk feet.
- Registration with the Podiatry Board of New Zealand and a current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC).
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary team setting.
- Excellent communication skills and a strong team-oriented approach.
