About the Role
We are currently seeking a dedicated Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our Haematology Laboratory team at Middlemore Hospital. This is a 1.0 FTE position on a 12-month fixed-term contract, covering maternity leave. The remuneration for this role is dependent on experience and in accordance with the PSA Allied Health MECA or APEX Laboratory Workers MECA Core MLS salary scale, ranging from $77,087 to $110,210.
About the Team/Service/Location
The Haematology Laboratory at Middlemore Hospital is part of one of New Zealand's busiest and most diverse teaching hospitals, which features a 950-bed capacity and a wide array of services including a large Emergency Department, Dialysis Unit, National Burns Unit, and Regional Plastic Surgery Unit.
Our laboratory is IANZ accredited and provides a 24-hour service to Middlemore and Kidz First Hospitals, as well as the new Manukau Health Park. We are actively involved in the education and training of technical and medical staff and maintain close collaborations with the Clinical Haematology service. Our department conducts a variety of diagnostic haematology tests using automated systems for cell counts, morphology, and coagulation testing. Additionally, we have a specialized section for bone marrow sample collection and processing, as well as haemoglobinopathy and thalassaemia screenings. Our team is professional, motivated, and committed to delivering high-quality laboratory services.

About You
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC).
- A minimum of two years of recent experience in a Haematology Laboratory.
- A solid understanding of ISO 15189:2022 and a commitment to principles of quality improvement.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with computer Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), preferably with experience in Sysmex Delphic and IT3000/Infinity.
- Familiarity with health and safety protocols.
- A positive attitude with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a busy team environment.
