About the Role
We are currently inviting applications for registrars to join our cardiology department at Waikato Hospital for a six- or twelve-month term. This role is suitable for Resident Medical Officers (RMOs) who have completed PGY2 or an equivalent level of training, possess strong references, and are preparing for the FRACP examination. It is especially beneficial for candidates who have already passed this exam and seek to further their training in cardiology.
Our cardiology department is bustling, admitting approximately 6,000 patients annually and performing 3,000 to 4,000 angiograms, 1,000 angioplasties, and over 400 electrophysiological procedures each year. You will work alongside nine cardiologists and an equal number of Senior Medical Officers (SMOs) in our four cath labs, all of whom are committed to a collegial approach. We cover all cardiac subspecialties, including advanced imaging, electrophysiology, structural cardiology, and acute cardiology.

Waikato Hospital serves as a teaching hospital and is the primary tertiary referral center for specialized and emergency healthcare in the Waikato and Te Manawi Taki (Midlands) area, catering to a catchment population of 900,000 people. It is unique in New Zealand for offering all surgical specialties on one campus and is the central North Island's major trauma hospital. Our cardiology department is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.

About You
We are looking for candidates who meet the following criteria:
- Basic trainee position at PGY3 or equivalent level
- Experience in cardiology is advantageous but not mandatory
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand
