Recognized for our commitment to high standards in animal welfare, milk quality, and sustainable farming practices, we are currently seeking a skilled Dairy Herd Manager to contribute to our productive farm located in Putaruru.
About the Role
As the Dairy Herd Manager, you will play a crucial role in overseeing various aspects of herd and farm management. This full-time, permanent position offers a pay range of $32 to $37 per hour, with a guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week and standard hours averaging 55 hours per week. Our work schedule follows an 11 on, 3 off roster.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, your main responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing and executing efficient and hygienic milking operations.
- Monitoring herd health, addressing illnesses, and providing support during calving and calf rearing.
- Implementing pasture rotation and feeding plans to optimize yield and animal condition.
- Operating and maintaining effluent systems in compliance with environmental regulations.
- Keeping accurate animal health records and entering data into farm software such as MINDA.
- Safely operating farm machinery, including bikes and tractors.
- Supervising and mentoring junior farm staff.
- Contributing to health and safety practices on the farm.
Requirements
To succeed in this position, you will need:
- A minimum of three years of relevant work experience or a related qualification.
- Proven knowledge of milking systems, herd health, and pasture management.
- Proficiency in using farm software and maintaining accurate records.
- Strong communication and time management skills.
- The ability to operate machinery safely and effectively.
- Experience in supervising or mentoring others is preferred.
- A willingness to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
- A clean police report with no pending charges.
