Description
About the Company
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is committed to creating a health system that serves all New Zealanders, firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Our mission is to ensure excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand, and we embrace a diverse and inclusive workforce to better understand and meet the needs of our community.
About the Role
We are seeking a Medical Officer of Special Scale (MOSS) to join our General Medicine department at Auckland City Hospital, part of the Adult Medical Services Directorate at Te Toka Tumai. This full-time position, consisting of 40 hours per week, is fixed term for 12 months, starting in January 2025, with the possibility of extension. We are open to considering part-time candidates as well.
The General Medicine department serves as a core component of our medical inpatient services and operates within New Zealand's largest hospital complex. In this role, you will primarily work in the Clinical Decision Unit, providing assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients who present to our service. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with service leaders to develop an acute clinic. Familiarity with community options and an understanding of Hospital in the Home pathways would be advantageous.
The level of autonomy in this position will depend on your experience, but you will always receive support from a vocationally registered General Medicine Specialist. For candidates from the United States, this role is comparable to a 'Hospitalist' position with a focus on patient admissions. Ideal candidates will have hospitalist experience and some familiarity with managing patient flow, though those with outpatient experience may also be considered. Please note that US candidates must hold Board Certification in Internal Medicine.
For further details on the position, we encourage you to refer to the position descriptions available.
About You
The ideal candidate will either be registered or eligible for general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Previous experience as a MOSS, staff grade, or Registrar is desirable. It is important to note that you will be required to provide source verification of your qualifications for your registration application. For more information on the registration process and source verification, please refer to the provided link.
