About the Role We are currently seeking Permanent Specialist Plastics Consultants to join our dedicated Plastics Surgical team at Waikato Hospital. The successful candidates will engage in both elective and acute surgical work, participating in an on-call roster that encompasses Waikato Hospital and its peripheral sites. We encourage applicants with a keen interest in Hand Surgery, Cleft Lip and Palate, Breast, or Head and Neck Surgery, as well as Burns. In addition to surgical responsibilities, the role will include teaching, conducting audits, and participating in quality assurance activities. Our Plastics Surgery Unit serves four satellite hospitals and the Midland Region, which includes Gisborne, Taranaki, and Rotorua. It is essential that candidates hold or are eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand as a Plastics Surgeon. We welcome applications from experienced professionals as well as those who are newly qualified consultants. Regardless of your experience level, you will play a significant role in the development of our service. An average week in this role is dynamic and varied, involving work across acute and elective surgery, outpatient clinics, and ward rounding for post-acute and elective patients. You will also be involved in the education and training of junior staff and other healthcare professionals. Positions available can be permanent or fixed term, and we are open to negotiating full-time or part-time arrangements. About the Team/Service Waikato Hospital serves as a major tertiary referral and teaching center, providing a comprehensive range of plastic surgery services, including hand surgery, head and neck reconstructive surgery, and lower limb procedures. We are also the regional burns unit for the Midlands Region. The department is supported by a well-established and dynamic team comprising 8 senior medical officers and 3 medical officers of special scale, alongside a strong multi-disciplinary team. About Hamilton Hamilton is home to Waikato Hospital and is a vibrant city located alongside the picturesque Waikato River. As a leading tertiary teaching hospital, Waikato Hospital serves as the regional hub for the Midland area, which encompasses the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Lakes, Tairawhiti, and Taranaki districts. With approximately 722 inpatient beds and 22 operating theatres, the hospital offers a comprehensive range of services, including radiology, laboratory, and pharmacy. Hamilton itself is a lively city with a rich blend of nature and culture. Residents and visitors can explore the stunning Hamilton Gardens, visit the Waikato Museum, or enjoy the Hamilton Zoo.
