About the Role We are currently seeking consultant anaesthetists to join our cohesive, friendly, and supportive team at Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers' Memorial Hospital. The successful candidates will become part of a team comprising around 30 anaesthetic senior medical officers (SMOs) and 11 anaesthesia trainees. You will have the opportunity to enhance our Anaesthetic Department in line with your training and experience while participating in our out-of-hours service. Our work environment is collegial, serving a diverse patient population with a range of surgical and medical specialties. We are committed to ongoing education and service improvement, actively supporting junior staff and interdisciplinary team education. The Department is accredited by ANZCA for two years of vocational training in anaesthesia. About the Team/Service/Location Located in Hastings on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island, Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers' Memorial Hospital is a large, secondary-level, 400-bed accredited public facility. We provide both acute and elective care to a region with over 176,000 residents. Our department handles a variety of cases, presenting both challenges and opportunities for professional growth. In recent years, Hawke's Bay has experienced significant population growth and demographic shifts, leading to an increased demand for our services. We offer a broad range of surgical, medical, oncology, and radiological services, and the need for facility expansion is imminent. The next few years promise to be exciting as we adapt to these changes. Additionally, the private healthcare sector in Hawke's Bay is expanding rapidly, presenting numerous opportunities for health professionals to broaden their practices. Both Royston and Kaweka private hospitals are conveniently located near our facility. About You The ideal candidate will hold either a FANZCA or an equivalent qualification that qualifies for specialist registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ).
