About the Company
Health New Zealand is committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to providing healthcare to all New Zealanders. We are focused on building a health system characterized by partnership, equity, sustainability, whanau-centered care, and excellence through integration and collaboration.
About the Role
We are seeking a passionate General Physician to join our team at Wairau Hospital in Blenheim. In this full-time role, you will be part of a high-functioning team dedicated to general medicine. Your responsibilities will include participating in the general medicine acute roster, which involves an average call-back of four hours per week. You will also have the opportunity to teach and develop our junior medical workforce.
As a General Physician, you will contribute to the development and delivery of care across the health continuum, working alongside a supportive multidisciplinary team. If you are ready to make a meaningful impact in a beautiful part of New Zealand, we would love to hear from you.
About the Team/Service/Location
Wairau Hospital is a modern, well-equipped secondary care facility that serves approximately 45,000 people in the Marlborough region. Our general medicine service provides high-quality acute inpatient and outpatient care, supported by a strong multidisciplinary team. We maintain close ties with Nelson Hospital and other tertiary centers, which ensures excellent patient care and professional development opportunities.
You will be part of a small, supportive team of experienced physicians, including colleagues from various backgrounds, who share a passion for general medicine. Our team collaborates closely with nursing staff, allied health professionals, and primary care providers to ensure a patient-centered approach to care in the Marlborough region. Local services at the hospital include Emergency, Paediatrics, Specialist Health of Older Persons, Orthopaedics, General Surgery, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. We also host visiting services such as Oncology, Haematology, Cardiology, and Rheumatology, along with diagnostic services like MRI, CT, and Laboratory services.
About You
We are looking for an ideal applicant who possesses the following skills and experience:
- Expertise in general medicine with experience in an acute secondary care hospital, contributing to the advanced care of inpatients and outpatients in the region.
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or an equivalent qualification.
- Eligibility for an Annual Practising Certificate and vocational scope in Internal Medicine, or, for the right candidate, in Rural Hospital Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
- A collaborative approach that promotes a cohesive team culture characterized by openness, humor, and respect across disciplines.
- A commitment to continuing medical education and professional development.
- Competency in te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori, or a commitment to starting your learning journey in these areas.
- Experience in projects or initiatives that align with the principles of Te Tiriti and that apply Matauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches in healthcare settings.
