About the Role We are seeking a Prevocational Educational Supervisor (PES) to join our team at Waitemata. This role is essential as it fulfills a requirement set by the Medical Council of New Zealand. As a PES, you will support doctors in their first two years of postgraduate training (PGY1 and PGY2), which includes New Zealand graduates, candidates on the NZREX pathway, and doctors new to the region. In this position, you will supervise up to 10 junior doctors throughout their prevocational training, typically over a two-year period. You will meet with these doctors regularly, with a minimum expectation of quarterly meetings. Your responsibilities will include providing training oversight, pastoral care, career advice, and guidance to help your junior doctors navigate various professional challenges. You will collaborate with Clinical Services and Supervisors as necessary, and you will have the support of a wider team of PES and DCT professionals from various clinical backgrounds. Key expectations for this role include contributing to the junior doctors' teaching program, attending local meetings every six weeks, participating in an annual MCNZ meeting, and actively working with Waitemata to meet MCNZ accreditation standards. Effective communication with the Director of Clinical Training, the Medical Education and Training Unit, and service-based Clinical Supervisors will be crucial to ensure optimal learning opportunities and training for our prevocational doctors. This role is both important and rewarding, and it can be undertaken alongside your clinical responsibilities. The weekly time commitment may vary depending on the needs of trainees and MCNZ requirements. Requirements To be considered for the Prevocational Educational Supervisor role, candidates must: - Be in good standing with the Medical Council of New Zealand - Hold a vocational scope of practice - Possess strong clinical medicine, management, and interpersonal skills - Serve as a professional role model for prevocational doctors - Be approachable and easily accessible to junior doctors - Provide pastoral care and take an active interest in their health and wellbeing - Support struggling trainees with confidence - Act as an advocate and mentor - Have knowledge of prevocational education, the New Zealand health system, and career pathways for doctors - Attend PES and MCNZ meetings regularly - Complete required training, including annual MCNZ training Benefits Working at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora means being part of a team that is committed to providing excellent healthcare to the people of New Zealand.
