About the Role We are excited to announce an opportunity to join our Biosecurity team as a Biosecurity Field Operator based in Christchurch. Our team is recognized as an industry leader in the implementation and management of rural pest control programs. We aim to maintain a sustainable pest control industry by employing the right people, equipping them with the necessary resources, and supporting their ongoing training and development. In this role, you will have the chance to work outdoors while being compensated for your efforts. Your primary responsibilities will include trapping, baiting, surveying, and monitoring pest animals such as possums, rabbits, and ferrets. You will also manage pest plants like gorse, broom, and wilding pines. While your home base will be in Christchurch, your work will take you to various locations, with accommodations provided unless you are operating directly from the depot. Requirements We are seeking a self-motivated, fit, and energetic individual who can thrive both independently and as part of a small team. A strong emphasis on safety and risk management is crucial, as you will be working in the field for extended periods. Proficiency in using GPS and handheld recording devices is essential, along with the ability to maintain accurate records. Since much of the work will take place on working farmland, an understanding of animal behaviors gained through leisure activities or experience in a rural environment is important. The following qualifications are essential for this role: - A Class 1 driver's license - Experience operating a 4 Wheel Drive and/or Light Utility Vehicle is highly desirable - A strong focus on health and safety - The ability to work away from home for extended periods (accommodation and other benefits will be provided) Additional qualifications that would be advantageous include: - First aid certificate - Controlled Substance License or Approved Handler Certificate - Growsafe Certificate - NZQA Unit standards in 4WD, LUV, Motorcycle, or Chainsaw use While prior experience in pest operations is preferred, we are open to training the right candidate, especially if you have lapsed qualifications or some knowledge gaps.
