About the Company
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, striving to create a health system that serves all New Zealanders. We are proud to be a pro-equity health organization focused on delivering equitable outcomes for Māori, Pacific Peoples, and the Disabled Community. About the Role
We are seeking an Orthopaedics Upper Limb Fellow for Waikato Hospital, a fixed-term position for one year, full-time. This fellowship is accredited for post-fellowship training and is primarily clinical in nature, offering a blend of dedicated fellow and supervised consultant lists based on the fellow's experience and case complexity.
As part of our orthopaedic team, the fellow will engage in senior 'call' rosters alongside specialist trainees and will be expected to contribute actively to the teaching program for junior medical staff within the department. The focus will be on upper limb surgeries, including arthroscopy, trauma, soft tissue surgeries, and arthroplasty, with a greater emphasis on shoulder and elbow procedures compared to wrist and hand surgeries.
About the Team
Waikato Hospital serves as a major tertiary referral center for the Te Manawa Taki and Waikato region, catering to a patient catchment of over one million people. As a teaching hospital, we offer a comprehensive range of surgical specialties all on one campus, and we are the primary trauma hospital for the region. Our facilities include more than 550 general inpatient beds, 34,000 surgical procedures annually, and an average of 220 emergency department presentations each day.
Located in Hamilton, the third largest city on New Zealand's North Island, our hospital provides an excellent work-life balance and access to a vibrant social network. Hamilton is conveniently situated just an hour's drive south of Auckland, with easy access to both West Coast surfing and East Coast leisure beaches. The area also offers numerous outdoor activities, including hiking, sailing, fishing, and biking, with the Ruapehu Ski-fields just three hours away.

- A strong orthopaedic skill set
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships within and outside the team
- A solution-oriented mindset with mature decision-making and prioritization skills in clinical settings
- A passion for teaching and sharing knowledge with junior staff
- Eligibility for registration with the New Zealand Medical Council
