About the Role
We are currently seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Buchanan Rehabilitation Centre in Auckland. This is a permanent, full-time position requiring 40 hours of work per week, Monday to Friday, with flexible scheduling available for the right candidate. The Centre is conveniently located in Point Chevalier, close to public transport links.
In this role, you will provide specialist psychiatric input as a vital member of our well-established multi-disciplinary team. Your responsibilities will include conducting urgent and planned assessments, as well as planning and delivering care and treatment to our patients, known as whaiora, in collaboration with their whanau.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct bio-psycho-social assessments with a focus on psychiatric rehabilitation and recovery.
- Provide psychiatric consultation to multidisciplinary team members.
- Offer psychiatric expertise in all aspects of day-to-day service operations, including clinical reviews, daily planning, and handovers.
- Liaise with other medical services, including physicians and general practitioners.
- Serve as the Responsible Clinician for clients under the Mental Health Act.
- Participate in the on-call after-hours Senior Medical Officer roster.
About the Team/Service/Location
Buchanan Rehabilitation Centre is a specialist inpatient rehabilitation service catering to 40 individuals aged 18 to 65 years. Most of our patients are under 30 and experience serious mental illnesses with high and complex needs. Many also have significant physical health concerns. We provide a therapeutic, recovery-oriented environment that utilizes evidence-based practices tailored to meet the clinical and rehabilitation needs of our patients.
About You
To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:
- Hold vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand and possess a current Practising Certificate, or be eligible for registration. If you are an overseas specialist, you will need to provide source verification of your qualifications for registration. - Have experience in providing psychiatric expertise to individuals dealing with severe mental health issues, along with a commitment to achieving equitable outcomes for Māori.
- Possess a full and clean driver's license, as this position may involve community work.
