About the Role
We are seeking a passionate physician to join our general medicine team. This full-time position offers the chance to provide exceptional acute and general medicine care. We welcome subspecialty work and are open to considering any specialty as part of the role.
About the Team/Service/Location
Hawke's Bay is home to a vibrant community of approximately 162,000 individuals, spanning both urban and remote rural areas. Our services are primarily based at the Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers' Memorial Hospital in Hastings, which boasts a 400-bed capacity, making it one of the largest provincial hospitals in New Zealand.
Our general medicine department manages over 8,000 admissions annually across four medical wards and a 20-bed acute assessment unit. The team currently consists of eight groups supported by registrars, house officers, and trainee interns. We pride ourselves on fostering a collegial environment with a strong emphasis on education, comprising more than 40 physicians across various specialties. We also have dedicated initiatives focused on improving patient outcomes, enhancing models of care, optimizing patient flow, and addressing healthcare inequities.

About You
The ideal candidate will possess an FRACP or equivalent qualification and be registered, or eligible for registration, as a specialist with the Medical Council of New Zealand. We are looking for someone with a broad skill set who is comfortable managing undifferentiated presentations in acute medicine. The successful applicant will demonstrate clinical leadership within a multidisciplinary team and a commitment to continuous quality improvement.
While the primary focus will be on ward-based care for acute presentations, there will also be opportunities to engage in outpatient clinics and service development and innovation.
