About the Role
We are seeking an internal candidate to join our Acute Allied Health unit at Dunedin Hospital as an Acute Allied Health Clinical Coordinator. This permanent position is part-time at 0.7 FTE (28 hours per week), with an additional 0.3 FTE required for clinical duties, resulting in a full-time commitment of five days a week. Your leadership will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality and efficiency of patient care, focusing on coordinating patient flow in the 7th and 4th floor acute wards.
As the Clinical Coordinator, your main responsibility will be to optimize service delivery by addressing barriers to patient flow and improving collaboration within our multidisciplinary team. You will work closely with your Line Manager and two other Clinical Coordinators to lead a team that includes Speech Language Therapists, Dietitians, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, and Allied Health Assistants. Together, you will ensure smooth care transitions and facilitate timely, effective, and holistic patient care. While your primary focus will be on the 7th and 4th Floor acute wards, you may also be asked to support other acute areas as needed.
In this role, you will:
- Direct the daily utilization of staff, balancing skill mix and resources to meet patient needs.
- Support referral triage and caseload management to ensure prompt, high-quality care for patients.
- Address challenges in patient pathways and transitions to optimize patient flow and outcomes.
- Coordinate staffing requirements, including leave planning, to maintain service coverage.
- Facilitate interprofessional communication, fostering collaboration across the wider healthcare team.
This position requires a comprehensive understanding of service specifications, multidisciplinary team roles, and clinical pathways to ensure seamless patient flow.
Requirements
To thrive in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- Patient-focused: A strong commitment to ensuring that patients receive the right care at the right time.
- Registered Allied Health Professional in New Zealand: At least five years of clinical experience, with a minimum of three years in acute care, and a current Annual Practicing Certificate in a relevant Allied Health Therapy discipline.
- Strategic thinker/problem-solver: Ability to address barriers to patient flow and optimize care pathways. You should be highly organized, honest, trustworthy, and receptive to feedback.
- Strong collaborator: Capable of fostering effective teamwork and partnerships across disciplines, with an understanding of the roles of allied health professionals within this clinical practice area.
- Committed to equity: Demonstrated experience in implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in day-to-day practice.
- A relevant postgraduate qualification and leadership experience in a healthcare setting would be an added advantage.

Salary Range
This position offers a salary between $111,240 and $117,420 per annum, pro-rata, as per the Allied, Public Health, and Technical Single-Employer Collective Agreement.
