Gisborne Hospital
Rostered Varied Hours
12-month Fixed-Term
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to upholding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to developing a health system that serves all New Zealanders.
About the Company
At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Tairawhiti, we are focused on delivering quality healthcare to our community. We pride ourselves on our vision, "Working together for a Healthier Tairawhiti," which reflects our commitment to collaboration and support within our healthcare teams.
About the Role
We are excited to invite applications for the position of General Paediatric Fellow within our Paediatric Department at Gisborne Hospital. This is a 12-month fixed-term role, although we are open to considering placements for shorter durations.
In this position, you will have the opportunity to work closely with our experienced team of Paediatricians, House Officers, and various multidisciplinary teams. Our Paediatric Fellow will function as a junior consultant under the supervision of a specialist paediatrician, allowing for a comprehensive learning experience. You will conduct your own outpatient clinics, participate in ward rounds, and be the lead doctor during on-call duties, always with specialist support readily available.
The clinical attachment in Gisborne is accredited for 6 months of rural training, 6 months of non-core training, and 6 months of developmental/community training as part of General Paediatric training.
About the Team/Service/Location
As a Fellow, you will be responsible for the assessment and treatment of paediatric and neonatal patients, both inpatients and outpatients, to a secondary specialist level. The on-call roster is structured at 1:6, and you will be included in the Senior Medical Officer (SMO) roster. In this role, you will gain exposure to Level 2 neonatal practices, caring for infants of 32 weeks and older, and be involved in the stabilization and transfer of unwell neonates or those under 32 weeks.
We prioritize your learning and development through an active educational program within the department. You will have dedicated non-clinical time for self-directed learning, including simulation training. We encourage participation in relevant training courses during your fellowship, such as Griffiths training, ADOS, and APLS.
Additionally, there are opportunities for those interested in outreach medicine to engage in outreach clinics serving our rural communities, as well as participation in the Rheumatic Heart Disease screening program.
