About the Role
We are currently seeking an Intensive Care Consultant to join our team at the Intensive Care/High Dependency Unit within Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, Te Matau a Maui Hawkes Bay. This position is ideal for an Intensive Care Consultant looking for a fulfilling balance of engaging work and a great lifestyle.
About the Team/Service/Location
The Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a Level 2 facility that provides intensive care to both adults and children. Our unit features a diverse and interesting case mix, enabling us to deliver complex multisystem life support, including non-invasive and mechanical ventilation, extra-corporeal renal replacement therapy, and invasive cardiac monitoring.
Our ICU comprises 13 beds that offer both High Dependency Unit (HDU) and ICU level care. We are proud of our dedicated team, which includes nine ICU specialists, one Fellow, and 14 Registrars. Our Intensive Care Physicians maintain a strong clinical presence within the department and are dedicated to providing high-quality medical care. Beyond clinical responsibilities, there are numerous opportunities for teaching, aeromedical transport, ICU leadership, research, quality improvement, and trainee supervision.

About You
To be considered for this role, applicants must be registered or eligible for vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council as an Intensive Care Physician. You should possess either FICM or an equivalent qualification that leads to specialist recognition and demonstrate a commitment to providing high-quality service to the community.
Ideal candidates will have experience in a wide range of Intensive Care Medicine procedures, along with proven experience in supervising and teaching junior medical staff.
