    Description

About the Company Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to delivering exceptional healthcare to all New Zealanders, firmly rooted in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We are committed to building a health system that is inclusive and responsive to the needs of our diverse communities. About the Role We are excited to offer a permanent, full-time position for a Consultant Psychiatrist within our Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty team, based in the scenic Eastern Bay of Plenty. In this role, you will be an integral part of our multidisciplinary clinical team focused on community mental health and addictions. Your responsibilities will span across the acute inpatient unit at Whakatane Hospital and involve collaboration with non-governmental organizations and primary care providers. You will work alongside a team of three senior medical officers, two registrars, and a house officer, all dedicated to supporting a diverse population. Additionally, you will engage with clinicians from both Whakatane and Tauranga in various cross-district service relationships that encompass addiction services and mental health services for older adults. As a teaching hospital, we also provide training for Psychiatric Registrars through the Upper Central North Island (UCNI) training scheme, along with mentoring for 5th and 6th year medical students from the University of Auckland. While this is a full-time position, we are open to considering part-time hours for the right candidate. About You To be considered for this position, you should meet the following criteria: - You must be a Vocationally Registered Psychiatrist with the Medical Council of New Zealand or be eligible for registration. - Fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) or an equivalent qualification is essential. - A collaborative mindset and a commitment to improving community outcomes while supporting and educating others is key. If you thrive in a team-oriented environment that prioritizes patient-centered care and values creativity and collegiality, we encourage you to apply. If you are applying from overseas, we recommend using the self-assessment tool on the Medical Council of New Zealand website to explore the registration pathways available to you. About the Location The Bay of Plenty, located along the sunny eastern coast of New Zealand's North Island, offers stunning golden sand beaches, lush farmlands, and bush-clad mountains. Its favorable climate makes it a popular destination for holidaymakers, retirees, and those seeking a lifestyle outside of the major urban centers. Whakatane is a vibrant and engaged community, conveniently situated near Tauranga, the fastest-growing city in New Zealand. The area boasts a wide range of schooling options and is home to New Zealand’s recently voted favorite beach, ancient forests, and breathtaking landscapes rich in Māori culture. The Coromandel and Auckland are within easy reach, and winter ski fields are also accessible. This region is perfect for exploring nature-based pursuits while maintaining a fulfilling career and enjoying an improved work-life balance. Working at Health New Zealand At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, we value diversity and inclusivity within our workforce, enabling us to better understand and serve our communities.
