About the Role
We are seeking a Consultant to join our dynamic Intensive Care team at our world-class facility. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the care and management of critically ill and injured patients referred to the Department of Intensive Care. Your responsibilities will vary daily and may include providing care for patients from tertiary trauma, neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, spinal, pediatric, and general medical or surgical backgrounds.
Additionally, you will contribute to our Deteriorating Patient Outreach Service and participate in the Air Retrieval Service, providing essential support across the South Island. You will have the opportunity to work in our state-of-the-art, 48-bed ICU facility, which currently operates 24 beds across two ICU pods. This position offers a rewarding experience for both newly qualified Specialists looking to expand their skill set and experienced Intensivists seeking a new challenge in a diverse and complex clinical environment.

Our Intensive Care Service is an integral part of Christchurch Hospital, the largest tertiary, teaching, and research hospital in the South Island. We deliver comprehensive care through our Intensive Care, High Dependency Care, Deteriorating Patient Outreach Service, and the Canterbury Air Retrieval Service. We pride ourselves on being a supportive, close-knit, and highly skilled multidisciplinary team, passionately committed to providing exceptional critical care for the 700,000 residents of the Canterbury region.

About You
As a Specialist, you will possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- Vocational registration or eligibility with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
- Broad general Intensive Care experience.
- Experience in Pediatric, Trauma, Neurosurgical, and/or Cardiothoracic Intensive Care is desirable but not essential.
- Previous experience managing COVID-19 cases is also desirable.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
