Description
About the Company
Health New Zealand|Te Whatu Ora - South Canterbury is dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare services throughout the South Canterbury region. Our facility, Timaru Hospital, is equipped with 131 beds and serves a district population of approximately 50,000. We are currently undergoing a significant refurbishment program to enhance our services. Our commitment to integrity, collaboration, accountability, respect, and excellence drives everything we do. We take pride in our diverse and inclusive workforce, which we believe leads to the best outcomes for our patients and communities.
About the Role
We are seeking a qualified Anaesthetist to join our Anaesthesia department at Timaru Hospital. This position offers the opportunity to be part of a dynamic team that services four theatres, an Obstetric Unit—which averages 590 births per year—and a combined Intensive Care Unit/Coronary Care Unit. You will work alongside Anesthetic Technicians and a skilled team of Theatre, Day Patient Stay, and ICU Nursing staff.
The Anaesthetist role involves delivering efficient, safe, and appropriate anesthetic services, as well as intensive care unit and pain management treatment. The position can be negotiated as part-time or full-time and will primarily operate during standard hours from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday, with on-call duties outside of these hours, including weekends and public holidays.
On Call Duties
The after-hours on-call roster is approximately 1:12, meaning you will provide coverage outside of regular working hours, on weekends, and during public holidays, with you as the first on call. There is also the potential to engage in private practice with the local Bidwill Trust Private Hospital, where several of our current team members have established professional connections.
Requirements
Candidates must hold appropriate qualifications and registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. For overseas applicants, primary source verification of qualifications is required through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates’ Electronic Portfolio of International Credentials (ECFMG-EPIC) service. We recommend that applicants register with EPIC during the application process. For more details on registration requirements, please refer to the Medical Council of New Zealand's website.
