About the Role
We are seeking a Psychiatrist to join our Mental Health and Addiction Services team at Timaru Hospital. In this role, you will provide high-quality specialist psychiatric services across inpatient, community, and addiction teams. You will work closely with our skilled Nursing and Allied Health staff to support our clients, covering both acute care and on-call responsibilities.
Our Mental Health and Addiction Services are based on the Timaru Hospital campus, where you will be part of a dedicated team focused on delivering a Strengths Based Model of Care. This position is crucial, as the mental health and addiction services are recognized by both the Government and the public as a priority need area.
About You
We are looking for an experienced Psychiatrist who is eligible for Vocational Registration with the New Zealand Medical Council or is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Psychiatrists, or holds an equivalent qualification. The ability to maintain strong working relationships with colleagues from various disciplines is essential to this role.
Health New Zealand - South Canterbury is responsible for delivering services throughout the South Canterbury region. Timaru Hospital, which has 131 beds, serves a district population of approximately 50,000. Our facility is currently undergoing a significant refurbishment program and provides critical 24/7 services, including emergency department care, intensive care, general and orthopedic surgery, geriatrics, oncology, palliative care, internal medicine, and pediatrics, alongside our mental health and addiction services.

Salary Range
This role is governed by the terms and conditions of the Senior Medical Officers Collective Agreement. The salary will be in accordance with the Pay Scale and will depend on relevant experience.
