Our Tegel Hatchery, located in Christchurch, is an essential part of our operations, and we are looking for a dynamic individual to join our team as a Team Leader.
About the Role
In this role, you will lead our Hatchery team with passion and purpose. Your primary responsibility will be to provide day-to-day leadership, guidance, and support to ensure the efficient and cost-effective operation of our hatchery. You will play a critical role in achieving hatchability and producing the correct quantities of quality chickens that align with our management objectives and quality standards, all while maintaining a focus on safety and biosecurity.
As a Team Leader, you will inspire enthusiasm and foster collaboration among your team. You will set clear expectations and performance standards, monitor progress, and provide regular feedback to enhance team performance. Additionally, you will be the first point of contact for growers, ensuring a high level of customer service.
Role Responsibilities
- Provide clear direction, coaching, and support to team members to promote a collaborative and positive team culture.
- Model organizational values and behaviors, fostering a respectful workplace.
- Lead the team to deliver high-quality day-old chicks to the farm, ensuring effective planning and resource utilization.
- Ensure adherence to biosecurity measures in line with organizational guidelines, including effective employee biosecurity practices.
- Manage, direct, and induct any on-site suppliers or contractors as needed.
- Order relevant stocks and supplies to maintain efficient operations.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement by identifying initiatives, engaging the team, reporting results, and implementing changes.
- Participate in a roster to cover alarms and duties as required.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should bring the following qualifications and skills:
- Experience in supervising or leading teams.
- Understanding of the Animal Welfare codes (PR6).
- Knowledge of animal husbandry practices and animal health issues.
- A mechanical mindset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong planning and organizational abilities.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety best practices, including environmental management.
