    Description

Location: Wellington Regional Hospital, Kenepuru Hospital, and Hutt Hospital Service: Respiratory Service Contract: Permanent, full-time (part-time negotiable) - starting August/September 2025 Salary: As per ASMS SECA About the Company At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, we are committed to upholding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, ensuring that we serve all New Zealanders effectively. Our focus is on building an integrated health system grounded in partnership, equity, sustainability, family-centered care, and excellence. About the Role We are currently seeking a respiratory/sleep physician (consultant) to join our dedicated team of 10 physicians. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional looking for a change. The successful candidate will become part of a friendly and supportive team, with a flexible start date between August and September 2025. In this role, you will provide outpatient clinics in respiratory medicine and sleep/non-invasive ventilation. While sub-specialist training in Sleep Medicine is desirable, it is not a requirement. You will also join the existing respiratory on-call roster and provide ward coverage one week in eight, caring for patients admitted under our specialist respiratory service and offering consult services to general medicine, intensive care, and other departments as needed. The job plan allows for approximately 30% non-clinical time dedicated to continuing medical education, quality improvement, and service development. For candidates with a strong research background, additional employment opportunities may be available by mutual agreement through the Medical Research Institute of New Zealand, located at Wellington Hospital. There may also be opportunities for sleep medicine-related work through WellSleep, a NATA-accredited sleep laboratory operated by the University of Otago Sleep Investigation Centre. This includes various testing options such as home sleep apnoea testing, in-laboratory polysomnography, and community-based PAP trials. About Our Team The Wellington Respiratory Department is based in the capital city of New Zealand and provides secondary care to approximately 450,000 individuals, as well as tertiary services to a population of around 1 million. We offer a range of sub-specialist clinics focusing on asthma, cystic fibrosis, lung cancer, non-invasive ventilation, pleural disease, pulmonary hypertension, and sleep medicine. Our department also conducts multidisciplinary meetings addressing interstitial lung disease, lung cancer, and tuberculosis. Moreover, we operate daily rapid-access clinics that aim to prevent admissions and provide initial treatment for rapidly deteriorating conditions. We are proud to offer Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) services for the lower North Island region. About You We are looking for a candidate who is vocationally registered in Internal Medicine (Respiratory Medicine) with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ), holds an FRACP or equivalent qualification, and can register for vocational registration with the MCNZ. You should be able to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while consistently providing high standards of medical care. Relevant experience and training are essential. Working for Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, we believe that our people are at the heart of everything we do. We are dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of Aotearoa/New Zealand.
