Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. By fostering integration and collaboration, we are building a health system based on partnership, equity, sustainability, whanau-centered care, and excellence.
About the Company
At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, we take pride in creating a supportive and inclusive environment for our staff and the communities we serve. Our goal is to provide excellent healthcare while ensuring that all voices are heard and valued. We are looking for dedicated professionals to join our team and contribute to our mission.
About the Role
We are currently seeking both full-time and part-time consultant radiologists to enhance our dynamic team at Wellington Regional Hospital, Kenepuru Hospital, and Hutt Hospital. We are particularly interested in candidates with specialties in Cardio-thoracic Imaging and/or Musculoskeletal Imaging, but we also welcome applications from individuals with a diverse range of expertise.
Key Responsibilities
As a consultant radiologist, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Reporting and supervising imaging lists, including CT, MRI, and Ultrasound.
- Performing fluoroscopy procedures as relevant to your specialty.
- Preparing and participating in clinical meetings and multidisciplinary meetings (MDMs), collaborating with clinicians as necessary.
- Engaging in teaching commitments with radiology trainees in years 1-5, as we are a recognized RANZCR training center.
- Participating in the diagnostic radiology on-call roster.
For those specializing in Cardio-thoracic Imaging, our department provides services for secondary and tertiary Cardiology, Respiratory, and Cardio-Thoracic surgical services for local and Central Regional patients. You will work closely with Cardiology to deliver Cardiac and Aortic imaging, participate in weekly diagnostic and full lung cancer MDMs, and attend monthly regional interstitial lung disease meetings. There are opportunities for diagnostic radiologists to perform lung biopsies and pleural procedures.
For candidates focusing on Musculoskeletal Imaging, our department offers a vibrant environment for subspecialist work. The MRI cases you will encounter reflect the demands of a busy tertiary center, including severe trauma and multi-ligament injuries, tumor cases, arthritis imaging, and more. You will have the chance to engage in regular ultrasound and fluoroscopically guided therapeutic injections, spine injection lists, tumor biopsies, and musculoskeletal aspirates and drainages. Our supportive group of interventional radiologists is ready to assist with more complex procedures.
Team Dynamics
Joining our multi-skilled, close-knit team provides an opportunity to relocate to one of the most beautiful areas of New Zealand. We encourage the development of special interests and ongoing education. Our department hosts weekly multidisciplinary meetings, fostering a collegial working environment.
The Consultant Radiologist team collaborates closely with services across the district, including Emergency, inpatient, and outpatient services. Most pediatric services are offered in the new Te Wao Nui - Child Health service and hospital at Wellington Regional Hospital, where our Pediatric Radiologists are integral members of the diagnostic team.
Our radiology departments at Wellington Regional Hospital, Kenepuru Hospital, and Hutt Hospital also serve as training sites for Radiology Registrars, Medical Imaging Technologists (MITs), and Sonographers. In the Capital, Coast, and Hutt Valley district, we employ over 6,000 full-time equivalent staff, making us one of the major employers in the Wellington region.
About You
We are seeking candidates who are:
- Vocationally registered in Radiology with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ).
- Holding a FRANZCR or equivalent qualification and eligible for vocational registration with the MCNZ.
- Experienced in Radiology, particularly in Cardio-thoracic imaging or Musculoskeletal imaging.
- Willing to participate in the diagnostic radiology on-call roster.
Benefits
By joining our team, you will enjoy competitive remuneration as per ASMS SECA, professional development opportunities, and a supportive work environment that values your contributions and encourages growth.
