About You
For the Advanced Training in Dermatology positions in years 1 and 2, candidates must have passed the FRACP written exam or be registered to sit the clinical exam for 2025. These positions will only be offered to those who have successfully completed the clinical exam and basic training. If you do not pass the exam, you will no longer be eligible for an advanced training position but may be considered for a run allocation.
Candidates for the Advanced Training in Dermatology positions in years 3 or 4 must have completed two years of advanced dermatology training with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. This role includes a 12-month run in the Department of Dermatology at Middlemore Hospital and Waikato Hospital, focusing on medical dermatology, with additional training in Rheumatology, hematology, health psychology, and pediatric combined clinics. The position also includes a weekly Dermatopathology clinic, management training, and inpatient care. At Middlemore, a research component is expected, while Waikato offers specialized training in patch testing, vulval conditions, laser procedures, and combined Rheumatology Dermatology clinics. This position is designed to enhance your autonomy and confidence within a hospital environment.
We also offer six-month allocations for those interested in gaining Dermatology experience as part of their General Medicine or specialty training. Candidates must be at least a Basic Trainee Registrar with the RACP, ideally having completed FRACP Part 1, and have experience in General Medicine. Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand is required, and we provide support and assistance throughout this process.
