About the Role We are seeking a qualified and experienced registered nurse to join our team as the Nurse Manager for the Emergency Department and Medicine. This full-time position is fixed term until February 19, 2026. In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills and gain valuable experience in a senior nursing position, supported by a knowledgeable team of Clinical Nurse Managers and Nurse Managers within the Medicine and Older Persons Rehabilitation Directorate. Participation in the Hospital Manager after-hours on-call roster is required. Key Responsibilities In this role, you will oversee patient care in various inpatient areas and support bed flow management. You will lead quality initiatives, manage incidents and risks, and drive change and improvement projects. Your focus will be on supporting your team to deliver excellent patient care. About the Service The Medicine and Older Persons Rehabilitation Directorate at Waikato Hospital is a comprehensive service that provides both acute and planned care. Our facilities include an Emergency Department, eight inpatient wards, community services, and concare facilities. Serving a population of over 400,000 in the Waikato region, and providing tertiary-level services to the Midland region with over 840,000 residents, Waikato Hospital is recognized for delivering specialized and complex medical care. We have a diverse workforce of over 7,000 employees who care for more than 100,000 patients each year. About You To succeed in this role, you should have a minimum of seven years of experience in an operational leadership position, along with extensive clinical knowledge in Medicine and Older Persons Rehabilitation environments. The ideal candidate will: - Demonstrate competency in te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori, or show commitment to begin their learning journey. - Exhibit leadership experience in managing complex dynamics within multi-professional groups. - Be capable of making effective decisions under pressure in complex situations and applying sound judgment to problem-solve. - Understand how to utilize data to enhance quality and performance. - Have a strong understanding of current healthcare policy and its objectives. - Possess highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to negotiate, resolve conflicts, and positively motivate others. Essential Requirements - Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand. - A current annual practicing certificate. - Expert-level status on the Nurses Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP), or if applicable, achieved senior nurse level on the Senior Nurses PDRP. - A minimum of seven years of leadership experience in a complex health-related environment, with clinical expertise in Medicine and Older Persons Rehabilitation.
