    About the Company Te Whatu Ora, Health New Zealand, is responsible for the day-to-day operations of our health system across New Zealand. We integrate the functions of the 20 former District Health Boards into our regional divisions and district offices to ensure continuity of services. Canterbury Health Laboratories (CHL) operates as a pathology service provider under Te Whatu Ora. As one of New Zealand's two tertiary laboratories, we collaborate with a diverse range of partners across health and other sectors at local, regional, national, and international levels. Our team comprises pathologists and a dedicated support staff, including scientific officers, scientists, technicians, and phlebotomists, all working together to deliver high-quality healthcare through our extensive core and specialist pathology services. About the Role We are currently seeking a medically qualified Chemical Pathologist to join our department, which includes three Chemical Pathologists and a registrar. CHL supports Christchurch Hospital, the tertiary hospital for Te Waipounamu (South Island of New Zealand), by providing a 24/7 core laboratory service for both hospital and urgent community needs. Our lab is known for its strong record in test development and research involvement. We offer a wide range of biochemistry testing services, including toxicology, endocrine, metabolic, and protein biomarkers, utilizing advanced instrumentation such as MS/MS, Q-TOF, TOF, and ICP-MS. We also play a key role in a national antenatal screening program and maintain a strong focus on quality, holding accreditation to ISO 15189. Our partnership with the University of Otago allows us to provide biochemistry teaching for 4th and 5th-year medical students, and we are also accredited for training by the RCPA. In your role as a Chemical Pathologist at CHL, you will be responsible for test reporting, validating and implementing new tests, mentoring and training scientific staff, and engaging in clinical governance within your scope of practice. There is also the opportunity to participate in lipid clinics. Requirements To be considered for this role, you should meet the following qualifications: - Eligibility for vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council (FRCPA or equivalent). - An interest in lipid disorders is advantageous. - Experience with specialist testing, such as MS/MS, toxicology, and endocrine, is preferred. - A focus on quality and an interest in informatics. - Both new graduates and experienced practitioners are encouraged to apply.
