About the Role We are currently looking for applicants for a new Nurse Practitioner (NP) position within the Children’s Emergency Care team at Health New Zealand Canterbury. This role is pivotal in delivering advanced clinical expertise and leadership to improve access and quality of care for tamariki (children) and their whanau (families). In this position, you will collaborate with a team of Paediatric and Emergency Consultants, Resident Medical Officers, and Registered Nurses. You will receive support from Nurse Practitioner Groups and direct clinical supervision from the Consultants in Children’s Emergency Care. Key responsibilities include: - Utilizing evidence-based practices to enhance decision-making in the holistic assessment, planning, treatment, and evaluation of clinical care. - Applying knowledge of pathophysiology and pharmacology, along with advanced assessment skills, to formulate comprehensive diagnoses and care plans in partnership with patients, their whanau, and the wider care team. - Collaborating with departments such as Adult Emergency, Paediatric Medical and Surgical Services, Child and Family Mental Health, and Orthopaedics. - Managing a caseload of patients aged 0-16 years, with shift patterns to be discussed during the interview process. About the Service Our Children’s Emergency Care unit is designed specifically for tamariki and their whanau. This is evident not only in the child-friendly environment but also in the collaborative approach taken by our multidisciplinary healthcare team to achieve the best health outcomes for the tamariki we serve. About You We are looking for a Nurse Practitioner who meets one of the following criteria: - Currently working in a Paediatric Emergency service as a Nurse Practitioner. - A Clinical Nurse Specialist in Paediatrics who has completed a Master’s Degree and is interested in undertaking a two-year Nurse Practitioner internship, with the expectation that an NP portfolio will be submitted upon completion. The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator who thrives in a team environment and collaborates well with other services. You should possess excellent organizational skills and a commitment to your professional development, with a desire to pursue ongoing educational opportunities. You will report directly to the Director of Nursing for Women’s and Children’s Health, while having an operational reporting line to the Charge Nurse Manager of Paediatric Emergency Care. Requirements - A minimum of five years of recent clinical experience in a paediatric emergency nursing role. - A Post Graduate Diploma in a relevant field. - Experience in mentoring, coaching, and informal teaching. - A proven ability to work effectively within a team. - Flexibility and adaptability, along with a positive attitude in a changing environment. - Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
