About the Role
We are currently seeking Registrars for our Emergency Department at Taranaki Base Hospital. Our Emergency Department operates 24/7, handling approximately 34,000 patient visits annually. Supported by various medical and surgical specialties, we are proud to have one of the highest concentrations of FACEMs outside of Auckland.
Taranaki Base Hospital is accredited by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine for a 24-month Emergency Medicine Registrar training program. We provide an excellent environment for professional growth, including:

- Opportunities for direct involvement in the care of critically ill patients
Clinical responsibilities for this role will include:
- Assessing patients upon presentation based on their triage status and conducting reviews as necessary
- Performing relevant investigations to address primary issues
- Executing clinical procedures as directed by the supervising medical officer, such as orthopaedic reductions, suturing, IV insertion, central line placement, and intubation
- Maintaining accurate medical records, including ACC documentation
We also offer protected training sessions, including weekly General Hospital RMO Tutorial sessions, Clinical Grand Rounds, and a dedicated emergency department CME teaching program. For ACEM trainees, there is an additional two-hour weekly protected teaching session and four hours of trainee education each week as required by ACEM.

About the Team/Service/Location
The senior staffing levels in the Emergency Department vary based on current employment numbers. Our team currently consists of 22 Consultants, 7 Registrars, and 7 Senior House Officers. About You
We are looking for an experienced Registrar with at least six months of Emergency Medicine experience at the House Officer level or higher. Candidates must hold MCNZ registration or have the ability to gain registration by mid-2025.
