About the Role
We are currently seeking a motivated and experienced Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join our team of 14 psychiatrists on a permanent, full-time basis. In this role, you will collaborate with a dedicated team of medical, nursing, and allied health professionals, primarily caring for individuals with complex needs in a community setting.
Our Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) caters to clients ranging from toddlers to 18 years of age. We utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), dynamic therapies, family interventions, mindfulness, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) groups. Telemedicine is an integral part of our service delivery model, allowing us to meet the needs of our community effectively.
As part of the Mental Health and Addictions Service (MHAS), you will have the opportunity to teach and supervise medical students from the University of Auckland, gaining access to the university's contemporary resources.
The MHAS provides a wide range of specialist services across the Taranaki region, including:
- A 23-bed acute inpatient unit for adults, high needs, and older individuals
- Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services
- Mental Health Services for older people
- Alcohol and Drug Services
- Consultation Liaison
- Acute Assessment through the Mental Health Assessment Team
- Co-Response Service for emergency calls
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
- Providing consultant services to individuals requiring specialist mental health care
- Collaborating daily with other departments
- Mentoring junior medical staff
- Working across various settings, including inpatient, outpatient, and community environments, with a focus on crisis intervention
- Covering for colleagues in their absence
- Participating in an on-call roster (1:10)
