About the Role We are looking for an Associate Director of Midwifery to join our team at Christchurch Women’s Hospital in Christchurch. This permanent, full-time position involves 40 hours of work per week, from Monday to Friday, with on-call responsibilities. In this key leadership role, you will have the opportunity for personal growth and strategic professional development while positively influencing the midwifery profession and maternity services across Canterbury and the West Coast. You will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operational management of our Maternity Services, which encompass Outpatients, the Maternity Assessment Unit, the Birthing Suite, and the Maternity Unit. We seek an individual who will uphold the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and implement our vision of ensuring equitable outcomes for Māori and vulnerable populations. Key initiatives will include: - Supporting the development and delivery of health services that incorporate Māori midwifery paradigms, models, and standards, while embedding Turanga Kaupapa into midwifery clinical practice. - Practicing evidence-informed clinical practice and fostering continual quality improvement. - Actively participating in quality improvement planning, including involvement in quality, safety, and care programs, as well as developing and implementing relevant policies and practices. - Focusing on gathering evidence and data for audit purposes, particularly in relation to equity. - Strengthening the maternity workforce to meet the needs of whānau requiring tertiary-level care. About the Service Christchurch Women’s Hospital, located in central Otautahi (Christchurch), is a modern acute teaching hospital specializing in midwifery and obstetrics. With over 6,000 births annually, we serve as the tertiary referral center for a significant portion of Te Waipounamu (South Island). We are proud to have four community units in Ashburton, Kaikoura, Oromairaki, and Rangiora, along with a central city primary birthing unit, Kurawaka: Waipapa. To learn more about us, please check out this video: https://youtu.be/L6a_aYdR8BY About You To be successful in this role, we are looking for a candidate who demonstrates strong leadership qualities, supports and develops others with integrity, vision, and cultural responsiveness. The ideal candidate will possess: - Previous leadership experience with a strong track record of competence in a leadership role. - Excellent communication skills and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships in complex environments. - A broad knowledge of the health and disability sector, as well as familiarity with relevant health legislation. - A core understanding of Tikanga Māori and Te Ao Māori, with the ability to weave Turanga Kaupapa into the maternity environment. - Completion or progress toward postgraduate study in Midwifery, Māori Health, or Public Health. - Senior managerial, clinical, or operational leadership experience, with a strategic mindset. - The ability to inspire direction and follow through on initiatives. - A reflective and accountable nature, with a willingness to challenge practices that do not serve whānau or kaimahi at Christchurch Women’s Hospital. - Proficient computer literacy. - At least 5 years of recent experience as a Registered Midwife, registered with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand, and holding a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
