About the Company
At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, we are committed to establishing a healthcare system that serves all New Zealanders, guided by the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Our aim is to provide excellent healthcare while fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve.
About the Role
We are currently seeking a motivated and tech-savvy individual to join our Radiology Systems team at Christchurch Hospital. In the position of Application Specialist, you will play a crucial role in managing and supporting a variety of clinical applications, including the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and Radiology Information System (RIS), which are utilized across multiple hospital sites.
This role is ideal for someone with experience in health IT applications or digital health environments. While experience with Radiology systems is highly valued, it is not a requirement. We also encourage applications from radiographers who possess strong IT skills and have an interest in digital health. We welcome candidates who are eager to learn and collaborate closely with clinicians and IT stakeholders to ensure the delivery of safe and efficient digital workflows.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for the following:
- Providing expert application support and administrative oversight across a suite of radiology IT systems.
- Acting as a key contact for end users, offering support via phone and ticketing systems.
- Collaborating with internal teams and vendors on application upgrades, rollouts, and system enhancements.
- Delivering structured training sessions on systems and workflows, both remotely and in-person.
- Supporting projects and contributing to ongoing improvements in system usage and workflows.
- Participating in a shared 24/7 on-call roster for after-hours support following training.
About the Team
You will be part of a cohesive team working within Radiology at Christchurch Hospital. Our team supports radiology applications used across several interconnected hospital services, partnering with clinical, digital, and vendor stakeholders in the South Island region. Our primary focus is on ensuring system reliability, patient safety, and optimizing digital tools that enhance diagnostic services and patient care.
About You
We are looking for someone who enjoys problem-solving, improving processes, and supporting others. A user-focused mindset and excellent communication skills with both clinical and technical teams are essential for success in this role.
To thrive in this position, you should have:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working with clinical applications or healthcare IT.
- Experience in application support, training, or implementation.
- Exposure to project coordination and change management.
- Familiarity with radiology systems or workflows is advantageous but not required.
- Experience working in large, complex environments or fast-paced settings.
Benefits
We offer a friendly and collaborative workplace culture where you can blend administration, customer service, and IT in a meaningful healthcare setting. This role allows you to make a real impact on patient care and staff experience while providing opportunities for ongoing development and learning. You will receive training on all required software and systems to ensure your success in this role, and no two days will be the same with a varied workload.
