About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Technician to join our Histology Department at Waikato Hospital. This is a full-time position, fixed term until October 2026, with a commitment of 40 hours per week. This role has become available due to a promotion within the department, offering a fantastic opportunity for a motivated individual to advance their career in a tertiary hospital laboratory environment.
As part of our laboratory team, you will be involved in various aspects of Anatomical Pathology, including laboratory administration and the preparation and processing of tissue samples utilizing histopathology techniques.
About the Team/Service
Our Histology and Cytology laboratory is well-equipped and modern, supported by a dedicated team of pathologists, scientists, and technicians. We handle over 20,000 surgical cases and more than 2,000 cytology cases annually, utilizing a broad range of diagnostic stains and techniques to ensure high-quality results.
About You
To be considered for this role, you will need:
- Eligibility for registration with the Medical Sciences Council and possession of a current practicing certificate prior to starting the role.
- A team-oriented mindset, complemented by strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
- The ability to work independently and effectively prioritize your workload.
- A solid understanding of process improvement and a commitment to continuous enhancement of laboratory practices.
- Previous experience in a Medical Laboratory setting would be advantageous.
