About the Role We are currently seeking an experienced perfusionist to join our busy department at Waikato Hospital, the largest hospital campus in Australasia and New Zealand's leading trauma center. This role offers a unique opportunity to utilize your expertise and further develop your skills in a dynamic and motivated environment. You will be part of a team that is committed to continuous learning and delivering exceptional service in cardiopulmonary bypass. In this role, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and collaborating closely with both the existing perfusion team and the wider theatre team. Key Responsibilities - Conduct preoperative patient assessments - Perform cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) and related perfusion procedures - Provide clear explanations of CPB to patients and respond to their inquiries - Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes - Contribute to the development of perfusion projects - Support the objectives of the Cardiothoracic Service Plans About the Team/Service Te Whatu Ora, Waikato operates two dedicated cardiac theatres and a multi-disciplinary cardiac team that performs approximately 600 adult cardiac procedures each year. Our perfusion team plays a vital role in supporting these procedures and ensuring high standards of care. About Hamilton Waikato Hospital is located in Hamilton, a vibrant city set alongside the scenic Waikato River. As a leading tertiary teaching hospital, it serves as the regional hub for the Midland area, which encompasses the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Lakes, Tairawhiti, and Taranaki districts. The hospital features around 722 inpatient beds, 22 operating theatres, and a dedicated outpatient clinic and procedure center, along with comprehensive services in radiology, laboratory, and pharmacy. Hamilton itself is rich in culture and nature, offering attractions like the stunning Hamilton Gardens, the Waikato Museum, and the Hamilton Zoo. The city is lively, with a variety of dining options and recreational activities, as well as events such as rugby and cricket matches, the National Agricultural Fieldays, and the Balloons over Waikato festival. Hamilton is an ideal location to live and work, with access to outdoor adventures and a vibrant community. About You To be considered for this role, you will need the following skills and experience: - Accreditation by one of the following Societies of Clinical Perfusionist Scientists: - Australasian Board of Clinical Perfusion (ABCP) - College of Clinical Perfusion Scientists Great Britain and Ireland (CCPS GBI) - European Board of Clinical Perfusion (EBCP) - American Board of Clinical Perfusion (ABCP) You will demonstrate a commitment to teamwork, possess strong communication skills, and have a responsible, organized approach to your work. An eagerness for professional development, both individually and as part of the team, is essential. Experience with cell salvage, intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation, and ECMO provision is desirable but not mandatory, as training and support will be provided.
