About the Company
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is committed to enhancing the health and well-being of all New Zealanders. We are grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, focusing on partnership, equity, sustainability, whanau-centered care, and excellence. Our goal is to build an integrated health system that serves the diverse needs of our communities.
About the Role
We are currently seeking Geriatrics Registrars for the 2026 Training Year across Auckland, Waitemata, and Counties Manukau. This is a permanent full-time position, offering advanced trainee roles or six-month allocations.
As a Geriatrics Advanced Trainee, you will engage in specialty training that prepares you to diagnose and manage complex disorders affecting the functional and cognitive health of older adults. Geriatric medicine is an increasingly vital and rewarding field, addressing the growing demographic of older individuals who require comprehensive medical care. This role combines intellectual challenges, general medicine, teamwork, and a focus on rehabilitation, bridging acute and chronic care in both hospital and ambulatory settings.
Geriatric Medicine Registrar runs in our Auckland region are typically six months long, after which you may rotate into a different area. Additional details about the training runs for 2025 can be found on the Auckland Doctors website. For comprehensive information on advanced training in New Zealand, please visit the RACP website.
About the Team/Service/Location
Auckland is consistently ranked among the most liveable cities globally, known for its breathtaking natural landscapes, vibrant cultural mix, and exceptional entertainment options. In the Auckland region, you will work alongside dedicated and knowledgeable senior clinicians who will provide you with exemplary supervision and mentorship, enhancing your training experience.
About You
To be eligible for the Advanced Training Registrar positions in Geriatrics, you must have passed the RACP Written Exam and be registered to sit for the Clinical Exam in 2025. These positions are available only to candidates who have completed the Clinical Exam and basic physician training. If you are still in the process of completing your exam this year and do not pass, please note that you will not be eligible for an advanced training position; however, you may be considered for a Geriatric Medicine run allocation.
You must also be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand, and we will provide support and assistance throughout this process. For those interested in Geriatrics experience as part of their General Medicine or specialty training, we offer six-month allocations.
If you are already an advanced trainee in Geriatrics and currently employed in the Auckland region, you do not need to apply through this listing. You will have independent discussions with your specialty.
Please be aware that even current RMO employees in the Auckland region seeking a six-month allocation or advanced training in Geriatric Medicine must formally submit an application.
