Description
About the Company
At Massey University, we are dedicated to fostering research that promotes Māori advancement, social justice, and community wellbeing. Our Whāriki Research Centre is a vibrant hub for collaborative research, focused on impactful projects that address critical societal issues.
About the Role
We are currently seeking a Casual Research Assistant to join our team at the Whāriki Research Centre in Auckland Central. This position is ideal for a postgraduate student, ideally pursuing a Master’s degree, who is enthusiastic about contributing to research that supports Māori communities.
This casual role offers flexibility, allowing you to balance your work hours with your study and personal commitments. While the weekly hours may fluctuate based on project needs, candidates can anticipate an average of 10 to 15 hours per week, with increased hours during key deadlines or data collection phases. This arrangement makes it an excellent opportunity for those looking to gain practical research experience while continuing their education.
In this role, you will be involved in conducting media and literature reviews, coding and analyzing data, and assisting in the production of research outputs. You will work in a culturally grounded, Tiriti-led research environment, gaining valuable insights alongside experienced researchers.
Requirements
We are looking for candidates who meet the following criteria:
- A strong interest in Māori research and social justice
- Proficient reading, writing, and digital skills
- Familiarity with, or a willingness to learn, tools such as NVIVO, Access, Excel, and online databases
- A collaborative spirit and an appreciation for working within a culturally focused research team
Please note that Massey University requires a criminal conviction check for the preferred applicant. However, we encourage anyone interested to apply, even if they have a conviction, as we evaluate each case individually. Convictions do not automatically disqualify applicants from consideration.
The role primarily involves working with young adults, but may also include interactions with individuals across various age groups. Compliance with the Vulnerable Children Act 2014 and the associated safety check regulations is mandatory.
Benefits
We offer a supportive and flexible work environment that values your contributions and promotes professional growth. This position provides a unique opportunity to engage with research that has a meaningful impact on Māori communities and social justice initiatives.
