    Description

About the Company At Trade Me, our mission is to connect New Zealanders in a way that helps them create the life they desire. Whether it's finding a new home, securing a job, purchasing a vehicle, or growing a business, we strive to be the first place Kiwis turn to. We also facilitate the smaller joys of life, like discovering the perfect bedside table or decluttering by selling items no longer needed. About the Role We are currently looking for two motivated Lead Software Engineers to join our dynamic Platforms team. These are permanent positions where you will play a key role in shaping the technical direction of our projects and mentoring a talented group of engineers. As a Lead Software Engineer, you will provide direct support to the Platforms team, collaborating on significant projects. You will be a valued member of our engineering community, contributing to the long-term vision of the Koru team while ensuring alignment with our organizational strategies. Your responsibilities will include advocating for and implementing engineering best practices, collaborating with Principal Software Engineers and Technical Product Owners to develop technical roadmaps, and effectively communicating technical innovations to product development teams. You will also contribute to our governance process by drafting and implementing Guardrails, Guidelines, Architectural Decision Records (ADRs), and the Tech Radar. Moreover, you will mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and constructive feedback to support their professional growth. Your role will involve embedding within software delivery teams to plan, develop, test, and release complex solutions, as well as collaboratively managing and reducing technical debt. Requirements To be successful in this role, you should have the following qualifications: - A minimum of 5 years of experience in similar development roles. - Experience with Agile software development methodologies is preferred, but not required. - A deep understanding of software development principles, architecture, design patterns, and modern technologies. - Strong technical knowledge for designing scalable, reliable, and maintainable applications. - Proven ability to mentor and support junior engineers. - Effective communication skills for conveying complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. - Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills, even under tight deadlines. - Openness to adopting new tools and methodologies to enhance the platform's capabilities. - Practical working knowledge of technologies and practices relevant to Trade Me's technical strategy. Benefits At Trade Me, we are committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where our employees can thrive. We offer a range of benefits, including: - Flexible work options, including part-time work, job sharing, and flexible hours, to help you maintain a healthy work-life balance. This also includes support for a home office setup and utilities allowance. - Comprehensive parental leave policies to support our employees and their families. - 10% dedicated time for ongoing learning and skill enhancement. - Access to various wellness resources to prioritize your physical and mental wellbeing. - A strong social culture with company-paid lunches, regular social events, annual awards, and employee networking groups. Our Commitment to Diversity We believe that diversity fuels progress. To address the existing inequality for women in technical leadership roles, we will be prioritizing women when filling this position. The successful candidate will need to meet the core criteria for the role, and Trade Me will consider a broader perspective that includes skills, experience, future potential, diversity, and the unique contributions you can make to our team. We understand that some candidates may hesitate to apply if they feel they do not meet all requirements. If you are excited about this opportunity, we encourage you to submit your resume along with a brief cover note explaining your interest in the role. Trade Me is an INZ accredited employer. We value diversity and embrace a flexible workplace where everyone is encouraged to reach their full potential.
