About the Role
We are offering opportunities for both training and non-training registrars as part of the RMO Annual Recruitment Cycle for 2026. The current vacancies will be advertised separately.
In this role, registrars will gain a comprehensive and diverse range of training experiences. You will have the opportunity to work in various settings, including inpatient, rural, community, crisis response care, child and adolescent psychiatry, older adult mental health services, and addictions.
Your responsibilities will involve assessing the mental and physical states of patients, providing preliminary diagnoses and treatments, and contributing to the development of comprehensive mental health services across our facilities. Collaboration with a psychiatrist will be a key component of your work.
Training registrars will participate in the Lower North Island RANZCP registrar program and will attend the teaching program for trainees based in Porirua, Wellington. You will receive strong support from a local training facilitator, in addition to supervision from consultant psychiatrists. A total of nine RMOs will share after-hours responsibilities.
Requirements
Our ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or eligibility for general or provisional general registration.
- Completion of PGY2 or equivalent.
- A keen interest in psychiatry.
- Empathy and sensitivity in supporting patients and their families.
- The ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
