About the Role
We are currently seeking Senior House Officers for our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Palmerston North Regional Hospital. This position is part of the RMO Annual Recruitment Cycle, and while current vacancies are advertised separately, we are excited to offer an enriching opportunity starting on 2 February 2026.
Our ICU is a busy, mixed unit that cares for critically ill medical, surgical, and trauma patients. The role includes dedicated anaesthesia theatre time as part of the ICU roster. You will work within a shift roster accompanied by on-call Senior Medical Officer (SMO) support overnight. Our unit operates under a "closed" model of care, where ICU SMOs are responsible for all admissions, discharges, and management decisions.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or eligibility for general or provisional general registration. You can confirm your eligibility by visiting the Medical Council's website.
- Completion of the PGY2 year or equivalent.
- A keen interest in Intensive Care Medicine or anaesthetics.
