About the Role
We are excited to expand our Parks team and invite you to be a part of our whanau as a Supervisor. You will lead one of our Parks and Gardens Maintenance teams, based at the Hornby Depot. Your team will be responsible for a variety of parks maintenance activities across our community parks.
In this role, you will engage with the diverse cultures and beliefs that enrich Christchurch. We value open-mindedness and respect for all visitors to these cherished locations.
As a Supervisor, you will provide leadership and daily support for the operational delivery of parks maintenance and development activities throughout the city. Your responsibilities will include coordinating the daily activities of your team to ensure a high standard of service for both residents and visitors to Christchurch.
You will achieve this by:
- Efficiently programming maintenance tasks such as mowing, spraying, weeding, hedge trimming, and planting.
- Building and maintaining professional and respectful relationships with various internal and external community groups.
About You
We are looking for a people-oriented individual with a positive outlook and flexibility to engage in various activities across the unit to meet departmental needs. You will naturally excel at building and maintaining relationships, both with your colleagues in the parks unit and with diverse community groups throughout the city.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A minimum of five years' experience in a similar environment, with at least two years in a leadership role.
- A full driver's license.
- A minimum Level 4 National Certificate in horticulture or equivalent, or extensive experience in a similar capacity.
- Experience in mower operation, weed control, and general gardening practices.
- A Grow Safe qualification and/or a traffic management ticket or qualifications (desirable).

Hours of Work
This is a permanent, full-time position requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week.
Location
The position is primarily based at the Cable Street Depot in Hornby.
Salary
The salary for this role ranges from $81,227 to $90,252 per annum, based on a 40-hour work week. Starting salaries will be determined by the knowledge, skills, and experience that the successful candidate brings to the role, as well as relative compensation within the immediate team and the broader organization.
