About the Role We are seeking a Kai Manaaki-Cultural Support Worker to join our unregulated health workforce. In this role, you will work under the direction and delegation of a clinician within your unit. The Kai Manaaki-Cultural Support Worker is responsible for task-specific duties with clear boundaries, contributing to the overall functioning of the clinical team at Tawhirimatea. As a Kai Manaaki-Cultural Support Worker, you will support clinicians in meeting the needs of tangata whai ora (consumers) when appropriate. It is important to seek guidance and supervision when required, and you may also be assigned service activities that contribute to the overall service delivery. The working hours for this position are Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, based on the unit at Tawhirimatea. We will provide specific training, as defined by MHAIDS learning and development, to ensure you possess the necessary cultural competencies and skills. Performance feedback will be given through an annual review with your line manager, and you are encouraged to refer to the Te Whatu Ora Allied, Public Health, Scientific Technical Collective Agreement for details on the cultural expertise performance review process. About the Team/Service Location Tawhirimatea is a 29-bed safe care facility and rehabilitation unit within the Central Regional Forensic and Rehabilitation Services, located on the Te Korowai Whariki Campus in Porirua. Our regional service takes an innovative and supportive approach to assist tangata whai ora on their journey through a multidisciplinary team. We advocate for best practices and the sharing of ideas to align with our vision of continuous improvement. About You We are looking for candidates who are enthusiastic, energetic, and team-oriented. You should possess basic group facilitation and problem-solving skills, along with some caregiving experience, particularly in mental health. Evidence of your commitment to personal development and the ability to set aside personal values in a professional context will be essential. Essential qualifications, skills, and experience include: - A strong interest in working with mental health tangata whai ora - Knowledge of tikanga Māori - The ability to work under guidance and follow treatment plans and guidelines - Effective communication skills, both written and oral - Adaptability to changing environments - Sensitivity to the needs of tangata whai ora, whanau, staff, and the public - Commitment to maintaining confidentiality - Understanding of clinical cultures and a strong consumer focus - Adherence to the organization’s aims and objectives - At least NZQA Level 3 or equivalent qualification - A clean and current Full Class 1 New Zealand Driver’s License Working at Health New Zealand At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, we are dedicated to providing excellent healthcare for the people of Aotearoa/New Zealand.
