    Description

About the Company Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to upholding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to creating a healthcare system that serves all New Zealanders. We strive to provide excellent healthcare and promote diversity and inclusivity within our workforce. About the Role We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated General Cardiologist to join our team and provide both inpatient and outpatient cardiology care throughout the Northland region. This position is based in Whangarei, with responsibilities that include travel to our rural hospitals as necessary. Whangarei Hospital is the largest facility in Northland, delivering secondary care services across the region and supported by our rural hospitals located in Dargaville, Bay of Islands, and Kaitaia. Our cardiology team includes Advanced Trainees, Registrars, Nurse Practitioners, and Clinical Nurse Specialists, all working collaboratively to provide high-quality cardiac care. Our hospital features an on-site cardiac catheter lab that performs coronary interventions, along with services for cardiac MRI, cardiac CT, and transthoracic echocardiograms, including TOE and stress echo. We also have well-established heart failure and cardiac rehabilitation services. Currently, pacing and device clinics are conducted in Whangarei, while implants are performed in Auckland. A key priority for our cardiology service is to expand our responsibilities for inpatient care, which will include an on-call requirement. As a General Cardiologist, you will join a small, close-knit team that is passionate about patient care. You will work closely with the Clinical Lead to ensure that your skills and knowledge continue to develop. We are looking for a motivated team player who is patient-focused and eager to contribute to the growth of our cardiology service. Recently, a clinical trial center has been established in Whangarei, providing an opportunity for involvement in local clinical research. You will have the chance to make impactful decisions and improve access to specialist cardiac care for a region that has traditionally been underserved. About the Location Whangarei, located in Northland, offers a warm climate, excellent schools, affordable housing, and picturesque coastal areas with a variety of recreational activities. We are conveniently situated just a two-hour drive or a 25-minute flight from Auckland, New Zealand's international hub. To learn more about our stunning location, please visit our website. About You To be considered for this role, you must have, or be eligible for, specialist registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) in an Internal Medicine Vocational scope of practice. You should have experience in general cardiology and be proficient in echocardiography, including TOE. Candidates with pacemaker implant skills are encouraged to apply, as this experience would be beneficial. We also warmly welcome recent FRACP NZ trainees. If you are currently overseas or not yet registered, we are here to assist you with the application process for MCNZ registration. Benefits Working at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora means being part of a team dedicated to delivering excellent healthcare to the people of New Zealand. We value a diverse and inclusive workforce, which allows us to better understand and serve our community. We encourage applications from our diverse Māori, Pacific, disabled, and rainbow communities.
