Description
About the Company
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders, firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We believe in providing equitable, high-quality healthcare to every individual and fostering a workforce that reflects the diversity of our community.
About the Role
We are seeking a physician to join our team in Whangarei, Northland, in a permanent full-time position. Northland has one of the highest rates of stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA) in the country, with approximately 350 strokes admitted annually. Our comprehensive stroke service includes a 10-bed Hyper-Acute/Acute Stroke Unit and a closely linked rehabilitation unit. We provide 24/7 care, including stroke thrombolysis, and work in close collaboration with our comprehensive stroke center, Auckland City Hospital, for mechanical thrombectomy procedures.
In this role, you will participate in our acute stroke rotation, focusing on providing care in the acute stroke unit, conducting hyperacute stroke assessments, and managing treatment and referrals. You will also supervise junior doctors and participate in the after-hours on-call rota, which includes weekend acute stroke specialist ward rounds.
While experience in the stroke specialty is ideal, we are also open to candidates with an acute medicine background who have an interest in, and commitment to, acute stroke care. This position can be tailored to align with the candidate's interests and primary specialty. We encourage candidates with experience in neurology, acute medicine, or geriatric medicine to participate in both inpatient and outpatient services related to their specialties.
About the Location
Whangarei offers a warm climate and is known as the "winterless north." The area features excellent schools, affordable housing, and scenic coastal regions with a variety of recreational activities. We are conveniently located just a two-hour drive or a 25-minute flight from Auckland, New Zealand's international hub. For more information about our beautiful location and living in Northland, please visit our website.
About You
