About the Role
We are currently seeking an experienced Ward Clerk to join our Administration team at Te Awakura, Hillmorton Hospital. This is a full-time, permanent position, working 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. Te Awakura offers acute inpatient care for adults within our Mental Health system, and as a Ward Clerk, you will play a vital role in supporting our interdisciplinary staff.
The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a solid understanding of the English language, and proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite. While experience in the mental health sector is desirable, it is not essential. A proven ability in customer service, as well as a flexible and proactive approach to various clerical functions, is crucial. We are looking for someone with a compassionate demeanor who can engage effectively with our patients and their families.
As part of the Administration and Clerical Pay Equity Claim settlement, this role is classified under National Band 3 / Profile 3.

Your responsibilities will include:
- Performing general clerical and administrative tasks
- Entering information into the patient management system
- Answering phone calls and greeting visitors
- Providing exceptional customer service
- Maintaining accurate filing of clinical notes and patient files

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with parents, their whānau, and Health NZ staff
- Attention to detail
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
- Experience using a Patient Management System (desirable)
- The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- The capability to quickly learn and adapt to new systems and technology
- Intermediate skills in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel)
